ams OSRAM AS8510 Copper Shunt Reference Design

ams OSRAM AS8510 Copper Shunt Reference Design provides a blueprint to achieve linear current measurement up to 100A with an accuracy of ±1% by monitoring the voltage drop across a PCB's copper track. The reference design takes advantage of the very high sensitivity and precision of the AS8510, an integrated data acquisition front end that provides two measurement channels. By using a technique involving the ams OSRAM AS8510 data-acquisition front end, designers of Battery Management Systems (BMS) can eliminate the precision shunt resistor normally used in current-sensing applications. The ams OSRAM AS8510 Copper Shunt Reference Design is intended for a current range of ~40A operation and 60A maximum.

Kit Contents

  • The kit consists of a four-layer PCB with all components mounted on the top side:
    • Top and bottom layers are used for routing of digital signals
    • Inner layers transport the current and act as the measurement shunt resistance
